It all begun in 1986 by the name of GAIKINDO Cars Exhibition. Indeed, this was powered by GAIKINDO in which there were only 13 GAIKINDO members participating at that time. The 4,000 sqm of Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) was the initial place of the show. After changing the name into Jakarta Auto Expo in 1989, the exhibition grew significantly. The number of participants had increased remarkably despite it was postponed twice in 1992 – 1993 and 1997-1999 due to the government tight money policy.
By the year of 2000, Dyandra Promosindo had been involved as the professional exhibition organizer handling the event which name had been changed into Gaikindo Auto Expo. As a result, the auto expo was receiving a big success by attended by 115 automotive related companies.
Entering the year of 2006, Gaikindo Auto Expo started a new level of auto exhibition which was eventually becoming an international-scale exhibition by collaborating with OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs’Automobiles) that coordinates International Motor Shows throughout the world. As a result, on 21-30 July 2006 Gaikindo Auto Expo was changed into The 14th Indonesia International Motor Show.
A remarkable breakthrough had been made by IIMS as at the 21st Indonesia International Motor Show which was held at 19-29 September 2013, the event was covering a total gross area of 75.101sqm which this led IIMS to be bigger than the other automotive exhibition in Asia Pacific, generating a total transaction more than 4.9 billion Rupiahs.
In 2015 and 2016, Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) is gearing up to bring The Essence of Motor Show to life once more. Indeed, there is a lot of breakthrough displayed at the JIExpo, Kemayoran Jakarta including motorcycles show, auto parts, accessories industry, and supporting programs as well. There are several supporting programs in IIMS such as Miss Motor Show, IIMS Blood Donation, IIMS Movie Cars, IIMS Military Zone, IIMS Drift Wars, and many more.
Moreover, a collaboration was made for the second time between IIMS and Grand Prix International (GPI) as the Steering Organizer of Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), one of the top five auto event around the world. This collaboration has transformed IIMS to whole new level of motor show in Indonesia.
